If you are participating in the Judging More Than If you are participating in the Judging More Than Just the Cover 2020 Challenge, this month’s category is a book that takes place in the state you live or where you grew up. #judgingmorechallenge This is probably the most straight forward category. For the purpose of this month's challenge, you can pick children's literature, young adult, or adult fiction. It can even be non-fiction! Perhaps there's a memoir where the author lives in your area. BOOK REVIEW: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover 💙✈️💦 "When life gives you lemons, make sure you know whose eyes you need to squeeze them in." Genre: Contemporary Romance Number of Pages: 337 Perspective: First Alternating Location: San Francisco, CA Ugly Love follows Tate after she moves in with her pilot brother. She quickly finds chemistry with his next-door neighbor and fellow pilot. But he’s too emotionally damaged to ever love again and she’s too busy for a relationship. So they create rules for a friends-with-benefits situation. But rules are meant to be broken. TL;DR: Too much sex and not enough plot for my taste. BOOK REVIEW: The Happiest Baby on the Block by Har BOOK REVIEW: The Happiest Baby on the Block by Harvey Karp. 👶 "During the first three months of life (the fourth trimester), it’s impossible to spoil your baby by letting her suck or stay in your arms for hours." Genre: Parenting Number of Pages: 267 Happiest Baby on the Block is a guide for getting babies to stop crying and to sleep better. It breaks down easy to follow steps and explains why they work. (Spoiler: think about the conditions of the womb.) TL;DR: A great guide for soothing newborn babies! Rating: 4/5 Full Review: Linked in bio.

March Theme: A book you were supposed to read in high school, but didn't. This may vary a little depending on what school you went to and what classes you took. Maybe it's just me, but there is something about having a required book to read that makes me not want to read it. I have found that going back and actually reading books I actively avoided growing up [or just read the Cliff Notes version. Is that even a thing any more?] I actually saw the value in (most) of them. So here is my quest to (re)read these "classics". Join me! Maybe it is a book your peers had to read in a different English class that you always wanted to read. Maybe you read it but didn't quite understand it at the time. Maybe you skimmed it or got away with not reading it at all. Now is your chance! Here are some of my recommendations for March: 📚A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle 📚Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt 📚And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie @officialagathachristie 📚Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson @halseanderson 📚The Hobbit by J.R. February Theme: A book about a nontraditional romance. I’ll leave this up to your interpretation. Some people might interpret this as anything different from the mainstream romance trope of man and woman from the same race and similar age. That's fine! Or you can interpret this as any story that’s the opposite of a standard lovey-dovey romance novel. That is how I will be focusing my recommendations. February is typically about Valentine’s Day and love. But not every love story is perfect. And not every story has a happy ending. So think of these as the relationships that are so wrong they are right. Or maybe they are plain wrong. Maybe they are taboo...or even illegal. Some are disturbing. Maybe it’s a relationship with a huge age difference. Maybe it’s about star-crossed lovers. Maybe it’s an affair. Maybe it’s between a boss and employee or teacher and student. These are not your “feel good” romance stories. And they typically don't have a happy ending.
